Hundreds of couples toting AR-15 rifles have packed a Unification church in the USA state of Pennsylvania to have their weapons blessed by God as "rods of iron" that could have saved lives in a recent Florida school shooting.

The church, which has a worldwide following, believes the AR-15 symbolizes the "rod of iron" in the book of Revelation, and encourages couples to bring the weapons.
An attendant was charged with the task of checking each weapon at the door to ensure it was unloaded and secured with a zip tie.
Students from an junior school near the church were relocated for the day to distance them from the gun-toting couples at the ceremony, according to the Wallenpaupack School District website.
An AR-15 was used to kill 17 people in a school shooting in Florida two weeks ago and critics said the church's timing was in poor taste. He said in a prayer that God gave people the right to bear arms.
A church leader is telling those gathered that the ceremony is a blessing of couples, "not a blessing of inanimate objects".

During the ceremony, as Moon and his wife knelt at an altar and she handed him an AR-15 type rifle, Elder said, "This rod of iron, spoken of in the Bible, as the means by which Christ returning will rule his kingdom". "You've got to be kidding me", said Kathryn Dalton.
President Trump and lawmakers have advocated varying degrees of new gun control regulation as the country bitterly argues over whether everyday citizens really need to own military assault weapons. Only thing they're good for is killing.
"People have the right to bear arms, and in God's kingdom, you have to protect that", she said. "Unfortunately, there's evil and we have to be able to protect ourselves in our community". The way the world is going today, it's just a form of protection for us.
