Two senior Palestinian officials have lashed out at the USA ambassador in Israel for reportedly warning that Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas could become irrelevant if he keeps shunning the U.S.as a Mideast broker.

He said that he did not take Abbas' remarks against him and calling him the son of the dog seriously, adding that such statements hurt the status of Abbas among his people, and that uttering abusive words will not improve the lives of the Palestinians in the end.

A U.S. Embassy spokeswoman did not respond to a request for comment.

The Palestinian Information Ministry, meanwhile, described Friedman's remarks as a "clear message aimed at the Palestinian president".
