'I'm not a terrorist' - Wanted Syrian Kurdish leader speaks out
Ankara is becoming increasingly distrustful of Western nations that provide support to Kurdish forces in Syria.
Turkey insists that both the PYD and its armed wing the People's Protection Units (YPG), the US-led coalition's top ally in the fight against the Islamic State (IS) in Syria, are terrorist groups that threaten its national security.
Turkish forces and their Syrian rebel allies have launched an air-ground campaign dubbed Operation Olive Branch into the Afrin region in Syria since January 20.
According to the Turkish General Staff, the operation Syria's Afrin aims to establish security and stability along Turkey's borders and the region, as well as to protect Syrians.
With the capture of any additional territory near the border, "movement will become easier for us", said the commander.
Turkey has sent hundreds of police and gendarmerie special forces to northern Syria, signaling a new stage in its major offensive against the Kurdish militia as urban fighting looms.

Missouri GOP divided over Greitens' future
Taylor's LinkedIn profile says she was a vice-president at the Greitens Group and had previously worked for the Mission Continues. Several email, text and phone messages left with spokespeople for Greitens were not immediately returned.
Turkey's Foreign Ministry spokesman Hami Aksoy challenged that account, saying Macron did not specifically mention Afrin in their telephone conversation about the ceasefire resolution. Afrin's borderlands held "the main defensive lines" for the YPG in Afrin, the Ahrar a-Sharqiya commander told Syria Direct.
Meanwhile, the T-129 ATAK helicopters, with guided air-to-ground CIRIT missiles - also Turkish-made - are being used to hit numerous terrorist targets that have been carefully laser-marked beforehand by ground forces.
"It was one of the enemy's most fortified strongholds", the commander said. "Yet it was broken". The precise nature of the allegations and evidence against him remain unclear, though the state-run Anadolu news agency reported charges against him include damaging public property and national unity, premeditated murder and transporting risky materials.
There are conflicting reports regarding the fate of the helicopter, with some unverified claims of the helicopter being downed.
