Paralympics 2018: Russian team banned from Pyeongchang Games but 30 to compete under NPA banner
Three nations - North Korea, Georgia and Tajikistan - made their debuts at the Winter Games.
International Paralympic Committee (IPC) president Andrew Parsons Thursday said Russian athletes were "as clean as any others" at the Pyeongchang Winter Games as he defended the decision to let them compete as neutrals despite a mass doping scandal.
The show of division came on the same day that President Donald Trump announced that he agreed to meet face-to-face with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.
The North Korean delegation, however, received one of the largest cheers from the crowd - some spectators carried the blue unified Korean flag used at the Olympics' opening ceremony. The united Korean flag portrays disputed islands - known as Dokdo in Korea and Takeshima in Japan - that both countries claim.
Alpine skier and flag-bearer Momoka Muraoka led 68 members of Japan's delegation into the outdoor stadium, the national flag attached to her wheelchair.

Forecasters: Snow, hard travel possible in Kentucky
The National Weather Service reports Sunday that a southern storm is expected to make its way up the coast causing more snowfall. The Boston area is predicted to get 6-8 inches while ME could see more than a foot of snow by Wednesday.
Ultimately, the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) decided that it did not want any further debate on the matter and suggested the two Koreas march separately at the Opening Ceremony.
"A small step to peace that started out a joint inter-Korean women's ice hockey team has been growing rapidly like a snowball", he said.
The closing ceremony of the Paralympics will be held March 18. "I believe the Pyeongchang Olympics and Paralympics as well as our endeavors for peace will help create a new global peace", Moon said.
Dancers line the stage during a performance at the opening ceremony.

North Korea has again sent a delegation to participate in the Games, which run until March 18. Pyongyang's headline-grabbing cheerleading squad did not make the trip.
