While the tax dues of Sidhu stand at Rs 52 lakh, payments that are to be made are in fact the expenses allegedly incurred towards dress expenses (amounting to over Rs 28 lakh), tour as well as traveling expenses (over Rs 38 lakh), and expense of salary to the staff (over Rs 47 lakh).
The Income Tax department this week seized two of Punjab Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu's bank accounts over unpaid dues amounting to almost Rs 52 lakh.
Sidhu did not provide any bills even for his tours and travels that amounted to Rs 38.24 lakh, petrol and diesel bill for Rs 17.80 lakh and for salaries which amounts to Rs 47.11 lakh. Following which, I-T department seized Singh's Citibank account at Connaught Place and HDFC account at Khan Market branch.
IT department had reportedly issued three notices to Sidhu before taking action against him. However, the Congress MLA failed to provide supporting bills, as mandated by the the IT Department (IT-D). Sidhu, however, has insisted that he has been filing his tax returns diligently. "The assessing officer has disallowed 30 per cent of the expenses and the total dues are almost Rs 52 lakh", a senior I-T official said.

Singh, who was formerly with the Punjab's BJP unit, was sentenced to a three-year jail term in a road rage case in 2006. He then appealed in the Supreme court the case is going on at present. Sidhu has also claimed that he has never defaulted in the past 10 years.
Singh, 53, resigned as the Rajya Sabha member and BJP in 2016.
Just before the assembly elections a year ago, Sidhu had joined the Congress and before that he was in the BJP and had remained Member of Parliament. He won and was offered a ministerial berth in the Amarinder Singh government.
Recently on social media, many clips of Sidhu's speeches have gone viral where his words of praise for the BJP, when he was in the saffron party and now the same rhetoric for Congress are doing the rounds.
