Around 16 daily flights would remain cancelled between March 25 and March 31, according to the airline.
Indigo has recently announced it is canceling 488 flights which include 36 daily flights while Go Air announced the cancellation of 138 flights which include six flights per week respectively between 15 March - 31 March and 15 March to 22 March. This takes the total number of cancelled flights to 488 till March 31.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on Monday grounded 11 Airbus A320 neo aircraft due to recurring malfunctions in their engines. However, it was not immediately clear how the process would be implemented.
Going by the passenger load factor recorded for both these airlines in January (90%), the cancellation of 626 flights would hit an estimated one lakh passengers. The passengers will get the refund or they can choose an alternate flight too.
The Pratt and Whitney PW1100G engines that power these airlines' A320neo aircraft have been dogged with performance issues since previous year. The flights that have been cancelled are from Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Patna, Srinagar, Bhubaneswar, Amritsar, Srinagar and Guwahati, among others. Apart from this IndiGo has moved the flight timings of many flights an hour ahead or two hours behind schedule.
