Information Commissioner 'Assessing' Evidence From Cambridge Analytica Raid

Against this backdrop, the government's concerns have been raised by Cambridge Analytica's alleged mining of data from the profiles of 50 million US Facebook users without their consent.6 If such an incident were to occur in India, it would constitute a serious violation of the IT Act. The firm used Facebook data to identify users' political preferences and influence their behavior, according to The New York Times and The Observer of London.

Facebook is now embroiled in two privacy-related controversies.

"We have a responsibility to protect your information".

Like its closest rival Google, Facebook offers companies an unparalleled way to target people for advertising, right down to their most granular details.

Encourage people to manage the apps they use: We already show people what apps their accounts are connected to and control what data they've permitted those apps to use. It also says Facebook has now started "limiting the data apps get when you sign up", as announced by the company last week. "We expect there are others", he wrote. In the complaints, they allege that Cambridge Analytica has broken federal election laws that ban foreigners from participating in the strategies of United States political campaigns.

Zuckerberg had earlier blamed University of Cambridge researcher Alexsandr Kogan for any potential breach of data rules.

Deadly fire kills at least 37 in Russian Federation mall
The Prosecutor General's Office on Monday ordered all shopping malls in Russian Federation to be checked for fire safety features. Yevgeny Dedyukhin, deputy head of the Kemerovo region emergency department, said the area of the fire was about 1,500 sq m.

Common Cause filed complaints with the Federal Election Commission and Justice Department accusing the British-based firm and executives of its parent company SCL Group Limited of violating laws that prohibit foreigners from participating directly or indirectly in the decision-making process of USA political campaigns.

The complaint was not only filed against Cambridge Analytica, but against SCL Group Limited, the firm affiliated with it, Alexander Nix, the CEO of Cambridge Analytica; Nigel Oakes, the director and co-founder of the SCL group; Alexander Taylor, the acting chief executive of Cambridge Analytica; Mark Turnbull, managing director of Cambridge Analytica; Christopher Wylie, who helped found the firm but recently spoke about its operations and mechanisms to the press; and a John Doe.

"We've spent the past few days working to get a fuller picture so we can stop this from happening again". Its new restrictions limit what data apps can access and will cut them off from your information if you don't use them for three months. A spokeswoman told the Associated Press that Facebook uses the information to rank contacts in Messenger so they are easier to find, and to suggest people to call.

In some cases, the involvement of foreign nationals in US elections is illegal: Specifically, US law says foreign nationals must not "directly or indirectly participate in the decision-making process" of a political campaign.

Separately on Friday, Britain's Guardian newspaper said a former Cambridge Analytica political consultant had accused the company's management of misleading the British public about work it did for a pro-Brexit group before the vote to leave the European Union.
