Russia's Olympic membership has been restored by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) following its suspension from Pyeongchang 2018.

After the massive doping scandal in 2014's Sochi Games got Russian Federation banned from the 2016 Paralympics, it was given a set of probationary measures.

The IOC released a statement notifying that all remaining test results from the Olympic Athlete from Russian Federation delegation were negative.

"I would like to thank our athletes who were able to perform well even despite the provocations", Russian Olympic Committee President Alexander Zhukov said in televised remarks.

The IOC Executive Board opted to wait for the Doping-Free Sport Unit to confirm that there were no additional doping violations by Russian athletes before fully lifting the suspension.

However, two Russians, curler Alexander Krushelnitsky and bobsledder Nadezhda Sergeyeva, were kicked out of the Olympics after their doping tests were revealed to be positive, with Krushelnitsky being stripped of his bronze medal. The name "Olympic Athletes from Russia" was given as a designation to more than 160 Russian athletes who were cleared to compete at the Games in neutral uniforms under the Olympic flag. OAR competed as the fourth largest team with 168 athletes and placed seventh by winning 17 medals, including two golds, none of which counted towards Russia's all-time medal count. "It's a decision of the utmost importance for us". The doping scheme has now overshadowed no fewer than three Olympic Games.

There was controversy after the OAR team beat Germany to win men's ice hockey gold on Sunday 25 February and then sang the Russian national anthem while the Olympic song was being played at the medal ceremony.

WADA said in a statement on Wednesday that Russia remained non-compliant with its code "as it has not yet met the necessary criteria of RUSADA's (Russian Anti-Doping Agency) Roadmap to Compliance, following Russia's proven systemic manipulation of the doping control process".

"Millions of people are happy for your victories along with you!" he said.
