Is HR McMaster On His Way Out of the White House?

The White House pushed back on a report Thursday that H.R. McMaster would soon leave his position as national security adviser.

Auto industry executive Stephen Biegun is reportedly the top candidate to assume McMaster's role. A spokesperson for Ford told CNN: "Steve has no plans to leave Ford and has had no conversation with the White House about any positions".

"General McMaster forgot to say that the results of the 2016 election were not impacted or changed by the Russians and that the only Collusion was between Russia and Crooked H, the DNC and the Dems", Trump tweeted. McMaster was appointed in February 2017 after President Trump fired his first National Security Adviser Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn and faced long-running tension with President Donald Trump in part over his style and disposition in Oval Office briefings. The report described the move as "orchestrated by chief of staff John Kelly and Defense Secretary James Mattis". While chatter of McMaster's departure has persisted for months, there now appears to be a scaled-up effort to locate a replacement.

A Status Red was originally due to come into force today at 4pm, but as of last night, it is in force. Mayo recorded a temperature of 1 degree, while Cork Airport clocked in the lowest at -3 degrees.

"We frequently face rumour and innuendo about senior administration officials", White House spokesman Raj Shah said in response. Trump took to Twitter to push back on McMaster's remarks at the Munich Security Summit last month.

The two have never gotten along, and Trump continues to chafe at McMaster's demeanor when he briefs him, feeling that he is gruff and condescending, according to a source who is familiar with his thinking. He worked on the National Security Council from 2001 to 2003 under then-National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice.

The report comes amid a number of departures from the White House, most notably Communications Director Hope Hicks, who announced her resignation Wednesday.
