As per available information, the agency was left displeased with only one day custody as against 15 days remand sought of Karti Chidambram.
Karti Chidambaram was arrested in the morning at Chennai airport after he landed from London.
In its remand application filed in the court, the CBI claimed that sustained interrogation of Karti was needed to unearth the "total conspiracy" hatched in the case and also to find out the details of overseas payments allegedly received by him from INX Media as a "quid pro quo". Senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi is leading the team of advocates for Karti.
The BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia tweeted: "The INC has nothing to say on merits when it comes to Karti Chidambaram's arrest". According to the CBI, Congress leader's son, Karti had received money from INX Media for using his influence to manipulate a tax probe against it in a case of violation of Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) conditions to receive investment from Mauritius.
The CBI further added saying that the whole objective of Wednesday's custody was defeated when after Karti's medical examination, doctor got him shifted to Cardiac Care Unit.

Singhvi, who will represent Karti in court in the INX media case, pointed out that his arrest has come at a time when the Centre is facing flak over the PNB scam involving businessman Nirav Modi. "He was perfectly fine in morning but gave evasive answers when CBI questioned him", it added.
He quoted in his submissions that CBI has not issued him summons in the last six months, after which an arrest was suddenly made.
CBI had registered an FIR against Karti, Mukerjeas and unknown officials of the then finance ministry in May previous year after the Enforcement Directorate had registered a ECIR (Enforcement Case Information Report) against Karti, INX Media and Mukerjeas.
The FIR does not mention Chidambaram senior, though it said he cleared the FIPB approval for Rs 4.62 crore FDI in the firm at an FIPB meeting on May 18, 2007. The court also allowed Karti to carry medicines on prescription, but no home food.
"Peter and Indrani Mukherjee have recorded statements that Karti Chidambaram demanded 1 million dollars for getting the FIPB approval in INX Media", the counsel submitted. He also rejected the charge of Karti Chidambaram possibly tampering with evidence, saying this was a 10-year-old case based on documents and there was no question of tampering. Surjewala further directed a dig at the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for employing wrongful means and acting as a puppet of the Centre.
