St. Patrick's Day DUI enforcement begins

The La Mesa and Chula Vista police departments plan DUI saturation patrols throughout the St. Patrick's Day weekend beginning Friday evening.

SLTPD is adding two patrols on Saturday to watch for drunk drivers on local roads, and CHP officers will be doing to the same.

A year ago on St. Patrick's Day, the CHP made 148 arrests statewide for driving under the influence (DUI).

The Chula Vista Police Department noted that nationwide in 2016, 60 people were killed in drunk-driving crashes during the holiday.

"If you go out this weekend and fail to appoint or fail to have a designated diver, it's very likely that we are going to appoint one for you", Lt. Tim Robinson of the Wicomico County Sheriff's Office said.

The police department recommends lining up a designated driver before heading out to party.
