Fire in Kemerovo: Foreign Ministry checks if there are any Ukrainians among victims
Funerals began in Russian Federation yesterday of the 64 people, majority children, whose deaths in a blaze at a Siberian shopping mall have roused public anger over official corruption and incompetence.
According to President Vladimir Putin's decree, Russian Federation observed a day of national mourning on March 28. Investigators said the mall's fire exits were blocked and an alarm system turned off.
A shopping mall fire in March 2015 killed 11 people in Kazan, the capital of Tatarstan some 800 kilometres (500 miles) east of Moscow.

The chairman of Russia's federal investigating authority, the Investigative Committee, has indicated that a short circuit or bad wiring could be to blame for the blaze, state news agency RIA-Novosti reported.
When the fire started, the alarm, evacuation and smoke ventilation systems were out of work, he said.
Investigators have identified a short circuit as a possible cause for the blaze and said the emergency exits were locked shut, making evacuation efforts very hard. The director, Nadezhda Suddenok, told the court that she believed that the fire was caused by arson.
Tuleyev cited incidents of alleged false bomb threats called into mining facilities in the region, and the case of a Ukrainian man who posted a YouTube video claiming - without evidence - that 300 people were killed in the fire.
Television channels on Wednesday broadcast with a black ribbon on the screen or a message "Kemerovo - we mourn", while Orthodox Christian channel Spas aired a show called "Kemerovo: what can our prayers do?"
