Lance Lynn, a righthander who has spent six seasons with the St. Louis Cardinals, has agreed to a one-year contract, a source with knowledge of the transaction confirmed Saturday. Lynn allowed almost twice as many home runs past year as he did over his previous five major league seasons with the St. Louis Cardinals, and his strikeout rate dipped from 8.7 per nine to 7.4.

That's become a common refrain among baseball players, and while Lynn isn't doing his fellow free agents any favors, he clearly feels the Twins are ready to contend.

After missing all of 2016 while undergoing Tommy John surgery, Lynn completed a full season while making 33 starts and tallying 186.1 innings in 2017.

Lewandowski nets hat trick as Bayern move closer to title
A well-angled strike from Serge Gnabry made it 2-0 on 77 minutes, before a calamitous Joshua Guilavogui own-goal secured victory. ROBERT LEWANDOWSKI bagged a treble as Bayern's famous frontrunning threesome destroyed second-bottom Hamburg in the Bundesliga.

At this juncture, Lynn probably can't be much more than that, and the new going rate for a non-elite-but-consistent starting pitcher in this unusual offseason is $12 million for one season. The deal, which is pending a physical, has an additional $2 million in performance bonuses as well.

By extending the offer, the Cardinals ensure that they will receive a compensation draft pick when Lynn signs with Minnesota.

Starting pitcher Lance Lynn is headed to the Minnesota Twins. Morrison and Lynn were both acquired on cheap, short contracts, apparently after not finding a long-term deal they were willing to accept. But it's a price the Twins are apparently willing to pay to upgrade their rotation once more.
