Longtime coach Richard Callaghan, who has mentored Olympic and world champions, has been suspended by US Figure Skating after sexual misconduct allegations, the organization said Friday.
US Figure Skating said it had fielded no other reports of sexual abuse by Callaghan before then or any complaint of any alleged misconduct by him since.
The suspension comes as the Olympic community is grappling with criticism over the handling of sexual misconduct allegations against coaches and other authority figures.
The suspension came after sexual misconduct allegations surfaced against Callaghan, though the nature of those allegations has not been made public, CNN reported. He was Callaghan's assistant at the Detroit Skating Club until they split after Lipinski turned pro, left Callaghan and chose to train with Maurizi.

U.S. Figure Skating did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Maurizi told ABC that he considered the suspension "a great step in the right direction" but did not elaborate, explaining that he was seeking legal representation. The alleged misconduct had begun almost 20 years earlier.
SafeSport on its Web site confirmed that it has opened an investigation into Callaghan, but a spokeswoman said the organization does not comment on the specifics of its cases. "I have nothing to say". The company's website still advertised private skating lessons with Callaghan until Friday afternoon, when the page was removed, ABC News reported.
