"If we lose corporations and jobs because of political pandering, that's problematic", said state Sen.

Gov. Casey Cagle (R) is threatening Atlanta-based Delta Airlines over its decision to sever ties with the National Rifle Association (NRA).

With regret, Gov. Deal said he is committed to signing the tax bill in whatever form it takes when it reaches his desk because he doesn't want the squabble over Delta to keep regular citizens from also receiving their tax cuts. Delta absorbed Minnesota grown airline Northwest in 2008 and consolidated operations in Atlanta, Georgia.

"Lawmakers should avoid privileging any one item by exempting it from a generally applicable tax".

It also won over Republican Governor Nathan Deal, who called the measure an important part of the state's tax reform plan that would "keep Georgia competitive as a major global hub of commerce".

But that's not how NRA members see it. "I encourage companies like Delta Airlines to consider Birmingham, where we put people first".

Delta officials said the decision was made to stay neutral in the gun control debate after 17 students and teachers were murdered on February 14 during the recent Lakeland school shooting.

"It signals to Amazon that politicians in Georgia are more concerned about scoring points with constituents sympathetic to a particular social view than they are about whatever business or economic rationale they may have to direct benefits to a specific firm", he said.

Cagle's comments come as Delta, one of Georgia's largest employers, appeared close to persuading lawmakers to restore the $50 million sales tax exemption on jet fuel. Other state legislators reacted to Delta's Saturday tweet like Rick Jeffares, a candidate for lieutenant governor and former state senator, who tweeted that he is "leading the charge to let Delta know their attack on the NRA and our 2nd Amendment is unacceptable". In a tit-for-tat, discount-for-discount scheme, on Monday, Republican lawmakers chose to block a potentially $40 million tax exemption until the airline reverses its decision.

The state's current lieutenant governor, Casey Cagle, also took on the issue, vowing to "kill any tax legislation" benefiting Delta unless the company changes its stance on the NRA.

"I applaud Delta's decision to listen to feedback from its customers and reject #NRA extremism that has prevented commonsense reform for too long", Abrams wrote on Twitter.

Other companies thinking about expanding to Georgia could worry about politics interfering with business, as well, according to Wisconsin's Arora. "They chose to single out the NRA and their membership - law-abiding gun owners - and I don't think that's right".
