Alton Sterling case Decision on officers discipline expected Friday with more videos coming
On Tuesday, March 27, Baton Rouge Police Chief Murphy Paul announced he would wrap up the internal affairs investigation swiftly, likely by Friday.
Salamoni encountered Sterling outside a Baton Rouge convenience store in July of 2016 after responding to a report that a man there had just threatened someone with a gun. "Sterling continued to resist the officer's arrest".
The killing gripped the nation in part because two videos taken by bystanders, each less than a minute long, were released publicly shortly after the shooting and captured the final part of Sterling's struggle with the two white officers. The Justice Department ruled out federal criminal charges last May. Officer Howie Lake II helped wrestle Sterling to the ground but didn't fire his weapon.
The police officer will appeal the decision.
Paul said the video is graphic and "shocking to the conscience".
McMillan stated that she didn't have faith that the state would find the officers at fault, but she is hoping that the officers will at least lose their jobs over the shooting. She told reporters Tuesday she hasn't wavered "on what I have said in the past". It was reported that the officers' lawyers also expect for their officers to be released from duty.
Baton Rouge Police Officer Blane Salamoni will be fired for his actions in the Alton Sterling shooting, according to multiple sources with direct knowledge of the disciplinary hearing.
Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry said this week that Lake and Salamoni would not be charged in the shooting since evidence showed their actions were justified. He said Sterling failed to respond.

Someone yells "he's got a gun", then gunshots ring out.
Salamoni then orders Lake to hit Sterling with a Taser shot and it sounds like he does so, Sterling doesn't seem to be physically fazed by it.
Officer Blane Salamoni shot Sterling six times during a struggle.
The family of Alton Sterling will hold a press conference Friday evening at 6:30 p.m. Salamoni appears to quickly take over the situation and nearly immediately begins shouting vulgarities and threats at Sterling.
Sterling sat up. As Lake yelled at Sterling to get on the ground, Sterling rolled away from Salamoni, who fired three more shots, this time into Sterling's back. It was revealed that Sterling had a.38 caliber in his pocket. "Sterling was under the influence, and that contributed to his noncompliance", Landry said.
A Louisiana police chief plans to announce whether he is disciplining two white officers for the fatal shooting of a black man whose death set off widespread protests.
"This is not about whether the officers should go to jail". Lake's lawyer, Kyle Kershaw, said his client's actions complied with department procedures.
Video from Howie Lake's body camera on the night of the Alton Sterling shooting shows the officer approaching Sterling, trying to get him to put his hands on the hood of a vehicle and eventually struggling with him on the ground. Police claimed they thought he had a gun, but he was found to only have a cell phone. At the time of the shooting, Baton Rouge did not have a written policy on the use of force and de-escalation.
