White Sox top prospect Luis Robert has been diagnosed with a Grade 2 sprain in his left thumb, the team announced Saturday.
Robert's thumb will be immobilized for about six weeks, and Robert will be able to return in 10 weeks, according to general manager Rick Hahn. While not considered a significant injury at first, he did hit the grand slam with his injured thumb; the diagnoses is now a sprain of the ligament in his thumb. "Hopefully we can adjust that timetable for the better when the cast is off". He received an invitation to spring training this season, hitting a grand slam in the same game against the Reds.
Hahn has talked about injuries more than he has cared to this spring.
Robert will go to extended spring training when he's recovered. Already, 2017 first-round draft pick Jake Burger ruptured his left Achilles and is out for the season, outfielder Micker Adolfo suffered a sprained UCL in his right elbow, outfielder Eloy Jimenez has made one appearance in a game because of tendinitis in his left knee and pitching prospect Alec Hansen was sidelined with soreness in his right forearm.
Robert, who signed with the White Sox a year ago and received a $26 million signing bonus, recently was ranked as the No. 46 overall prospect in baseball.
