School resource officer credited with stopping Maryland school shooter
Authorities in St. Mary's County, Maryland, say the gunman in last week's school shooting at Great Mills High School killed himself.
According to details released by the St. Mary's County sheriff's office, Rollins parked his auto at 7:50 a.m. and walked through the school's main entrance two minutes later.
Continuing walking through the school, Rollins was confronted by school resource officer Deputy First Class Blaine Gaskill and both their weapons went off simultaneously.
Austin Wyatt Rollins opened fire at Great Mills High School in Maryland earlier this month, killing one student and injuring another, the Baltimore Sun reported. Another call is from a teacher, who says she saw a girl get shot in the hallway, a classmate later identified as 16-year-old Jaelynn Willey, who died late Thursday night after her family removed her from life support. Her funeral is planned for Friday.
A 14-year-old boy was shot in the thigh during the encounter.

Gaskill's role in confronting the shooter also thrust the high school located about 70 miles south of Washington, D.C., into the national gun control debate and discussions over whether schools should arm teachers or add more armed security on campuses.
"How many shots were fired?" asks a dispatcher. Authorities have revealed that the handgun used in the shooting was owned by the gunman's father. The sheriff's office said Rollins and the girl had been in a relationship that recently ended.
