Jammu and Kashmir: Suspected LeT militant dies in an encounter with security forces in Bandipora

One terrorist has been killed in an encounter that broke out in Hajin area of Jammu and Kashmir's Bandipora district.

Local media reports said that Hajin observed a shutdown both on Tuesday and Wednesday over the militant's death.

The militants opened fire on the security personnel, and a gunfight ensued, he added.

A body and an AK 47 was recovered from the encounter site, they said.

According to All India Radio, the encounter is underway in Shakurdin Mohalla of Hajin area of Bandipora district.

Sources claimed that more terrorists are believed to be holed up in the area. The vast swathes of orchards, huge clusters of villages, close proximity to Srinagar on south and Bandipora on north makes Hajin an important transit point for militants as it is also connected to the highway. Police said in a statement that action would be initiated against those "who led the protest and instigated the public".
