Resolution lays out rules for special committee investigating governor

"Unlike a number of my respected colleagues in the Missouri General Assembly, I believe it is premature to offer an opinion on whether Governor Greitens should go, simply because I respect the legal and House processes to hear the evidence needed to make such a weighty decision", Walsh wrote. No vote was taken. The committee also would be able to hire independent investigators, special counsel, court reporters and other personnel with House funds.

Members of the committee investigating Greitens were announced Monday afternoon.

Henfried's attorney said that they are asking for a pardon because Greitens is using a similar argument to their own in fighting the felony charges.

The discovery list includes emails between Greitens and a woman who he's alleged to have taken a compromising photo of and then threatened blackmail.

The federal agencies declined, saying it was not their jurisdiction, Ryan said.

Baker is vice president of the political consulting firm Axiom Strategies. Baker also registered as a lobbyist Wednesday for Joplin businessman David Humphreys, a major contributor to Greitens' campaign committee.

All that is swirling around Greitens was part of the reason Burlison agreed to a May trial, not the November date requested by prosecutors.

Eric Greitens is the embattled governor of Missouri, fighting charges that he surreptitiously recorded a woman he was having an affair with without her consent. Steele cited a need for further investigation before the trial begins, noting that the pre-indictment investigation was rushed because the statute of limitations for invasion of privacy would have run out in March. According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch and the Kansas City Star, First Assistant Circuit Attorney Robert Steele responded that he didn't say that.

Susan Ryan, spokeswoman for the St. Louis Circuit Attorney's Office, said she could not discuss the evidence in the case.

Attorneys for Greitens are questioning why Gardner hired a private out-of-state company to perform the investigation that led to his indictment, rather than relying on St. Louis police.

The May trial date was a victory for Greitens.

Greitens was indicted by a St. Louis grand jury last week on one felony count of invasion of privacy.

Greitens has admitted to the affair but has denied wrongdoing in the connection with it.

Greitens, his lawyers and the state Republican Party have said the investigation and indictment are politically motivated.
