Multiple Suspicious Packages Sent to DC-Area Military Installations

The FBI is investigating suspicious packages with apparent explosive components at several US military installations and intelligence facilities in the Washington, D.C., area Monday, a law enforcement official said.

The package tested positive for black powder, which can be used to make explosives, according to Ft. "The X-ray conducted indicates suspected Global Positioning System and an expedient fuse were attached".

No injuries were reported at any of the bases and each of the packages were rendered safe, officials said.

Similar suspicious packages were found at Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling in D.C., a Central Intelligence Agency mail processing facility, a White House mail processing facility and Dahlgren Naval Air Station in Virginia.

Fort Belvoir in Virginia confirmed to FOX 5 that they had a suspicious incident on Monday and it has been contained and was deemed safe.

The National Defense University at Fort McNair was cleared for re-entry after K-9 sweep and personnel returned to the building by 1:15 pm ET.

The FBI is now in possession of the packages and is trying to determine if they were explosive and who sent them.

"Each package was collected for further analysis by the FBI", Nicole Schwab, a spokesperson for the FBI Washington Field Office, told BuzzFeed News.

CNN reported the Federal Bureau of Investigation now has the packages and is examining them at a lab in Quantico, VA.
