Governor Phil Murphy signs an executive order to create the Jobs and Economic Opportunity Council in Dayton
New data from Gov. Phil Murphy's administration shows the average New Jersey property tax bill rose less than 2 percent a year ago.
"We must make sure that state residents have access to jobs and opportunities that will allow them to contribute to our economy", said Murphy during a press conference.
Opponents of the bill warned the IRS won't be so easy to outwit, and New Jersey homeowners could get socked by penalties and interest payments once the jig is up. "I look forward to hearing the Council's recommendations and beginning the process of building a stronger and fairer economy in our state".
This is Murphy's 12th executive order in six weeks, according to an.
"I know there are outside sources of funds for programs that we have left on the table for too long".
State Sen. Paul Sarlo, D-Bergen, a sponsor and chairman of the Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee, called it a "short-term measure to deal with how New Jersey taxpayers got their teeth kicked in by the scheme by Congress to eliminate our SALT deduction".

The Council will be directed to provide Murphy with economic advice and recommendations for stimulating job growth and workforce development in New Jersey.
