ACC Tar Heels can in part thank Virginia for getting to the title game
Virginia's marvelous 31-2 season was rewarded Sunday night when it was awarded the No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament. Luke Maye and Joel Berry managed to find their shots, scoring 20 and 17 points, respectively. He continued his sharpshooting with a pair of 3-pointers, and 12 of his points came in the second half. There was some debate over some of the other No. 1 seeds getting the victor of play-in games earlier in the week. They also won the battle of tempo in that one, as they controlled the pace and limited the Heels to just 59 offensive possessions, which was by far their lowest of the season.
This is the fifth straight year Bennett, the USBWA's national coach of the year, has guided Virginia to the NCAA tournament. The Tar Heels finished in a third place tie in the ACC regular season standings, lost more games than either Duke or Xavier and suffered the single most damaging loss among the three teams, a home loss to Wofford on December 20.

Meanwhile, after a shaky start, Wilkins ignited a defense that limited North Carolina to 38.5 percent shooting in the second half. As a top seed, the Cavaliers lost to Michigan State in the Sweet 16 in 2014, and then Syracuse in the Elite Eight in 2016. After building a 9-point lead in the first 11 minutes, Rhode Island held a 36-33 edge at the break.
The late basket was just Robinson's second of the game. Wichita State had two chances to regain the lead, but Austin Reaves missed a jumper and Robinson recorded his critical steal, setting up two game-clinching free throws by Robert Gray Jr.
Corey Davis Jr. scored 19 points for the Cougars (26-6), who advanced to play No. 8 Cincinnati in the championship game.
ST. LOUIS - Jaylen Barford scored 27 points and matched his career high with 10 rebounds to help send Arkansas to the semifinals of the Southeastern Conference Tournament with a win over Florida.
Marshall became the 11th different school to win the C-USA Championship title game in the league's 23 years.
