Official sources said the very fact that Oli, known for his pro-China stance, had chosen India as his first port of call after assuming office last month clearly suggested that he was keen to mend fences with New Delhi.

According to reports, Nepali Prime Minister Oli recently held a meeting with ambassadors and officials of worldwide diplomatic missions based in Kathmandu to inform them of the government's foreign policy. A high-level delegation will accompany Oli on his state visit to India, the MEA said.

During the visit, PM will hold official meeting with Indian PM Narendra Modi and exchange views on matters of mutual interests.

India and Nepal enjoy age-old, special ties of friendship and co-operation.

Asked if any agreements were expected to be signed during the visit, sources said the two countries were in touch in this regard.

"The upcoming visit will provide an opportunity to the two sides to review wide-ranging cooperative partnership, and to progress it further for the benefit of the two peoples", a Ministry release said.

Oli will also visit Pantnagar, Uttarakhand, and attend a programme organised at the Govind Ballabh Pant University of Agriculture and Technology. Also, senior cabinet members of Modi-cabinet will call on Prime Minister Oli.
