Nepali players celebrate after winning a game against Papua New Guinea in play-off on Thursday
March 15, 2018 will be considered historic day for Nepal's cricket as Nepal secured One-Day International (ODI) status after beating Papua New Guinea (PNG) by 6 wickets in Cricket World Cup Qualifiers at Old Hararians Sports Club, Zimbabwe.
In the match, Nepal limited PNG to just 114 runs in 27.2 overs because of the outstanding performance by Sandeep Lamichhane and Dipendra Airee who scalped four wicket each. And the Dutch helped Nepal's cause, sweeping aside Hong Kong by 44 runs. The Nepali team will retain its ODI and T20 global status for the next four years and will feature in the World Cricket League Championship and Inter Continental Cup, among others.
