Boeing said on 27 February that it reached a deal with the USAF on further Presidential Aircraft Recapitalization work
The new Air Force One planes will be Boeing 747-8.
"Boeing is building a brand new 747 Air Force One for future presidents, but costs are out of control, more than $4 billion".
As an example of the unusually high costs associated with Air Force One, the Pentagon announced in December that Boeing was given a US$23.7 million contract to design, make and install refrigerators for the president's planes.
But the company's negotiators balked, bringing talks to a standstill and prompting last week's White House meeting between Trump and Muilenburg.
White House spokesman Hogan Gidley said the president's negotiating skill had shaved "more than $1.4 billion" off the purchase price.
The current Air Force One aircraft are modified Boeing 747s from when Ronald Reagan was president.
The presidential aircraft have unique characteristics, including a communications suite, large galleys, a self-defense system and structural modifications meant to protect the president and others onboard for an extended period of time.

The new Air Force One deal will have the White House replacing older Air Force One models.
Boeing CEO Dennis Muilenburg on the company's digital solutions business, the government's potential boost to defense spending, the Iran nuclear deal and the company's investment in STEM programs. The White House is saying now that the total costs would have been more than $5 billion.
The White House official said the new deal with Boeing would be "managed through over and above contract line items that will be negotiated concurrently with this final contract".
It has always been essential for Boeing to keep up a good relationship with the federal government.
So it started at $4 billion, went up to $5 billion, settled at $3.9 billion and saved $1.4 billion.
