McLaren Senna Carbon Theme – got carbon-fibre?
This is the McLaren Senna "Carbon Theme", a special edition of one of the most hotly-anticipated supercars of all time and the ultimate "road-legal track car" from the Woking manufacturer. This is the result of a special process that sees the design embedded into the carbon fiber panel.
McLaren says the Senna Carbon Theme by MSO takes almost 1,000 hours to produce.
As the name suggests, the Senna "Carbon Theme" will feature additional carbon fibre elements. The new wheel pairs forged aluminum with carbon fiber elements, scoring a 10 percent reduction in wheel weight compared to the standard wheel offered for the vehicle, in addition to a 10 to 15 percent reduction in rotating inertia.
McLaren Automotive is set to show its new Senna hypercar at the Geneva Motor Show for the first time next week. Made out of forged aluminium and carbon-fibre, the centre-locking wheel weighs just 7.5 kg (front wheel) each to reduce unsprung weight.
This "Carbon Theme" vehicle is a bespoke project by McLaren Special Operations that combines a nude-effect carbonfibre body with yellow and green accents, as well as a black Alcantara interior trim to striking effect.
McLaren says that the new ultra-lightweight MSO seven-spoke hybrid carbonfibre wheels that are shown off on this new vehicle also will be available to order soon as a dealer-fit option. The seats" headrests also sport a Senna "S' symbol, mimicking those on the end plates of the rear wing. It's made up of 67 parts, offset by Sonar Yellow detailing that, according to the company, took 250 hours to apply. MSO also says that the wheel offers a 10-15 percent reduction in rotating inertia, helping acceleration, deceleration and cornering. But the McLaren Senna wasn't built to be pretty.
What do you think of the McLaren Senna Carbon Theme? After all, we're talking about a 789-hp auto that McLaren says is "legalized for road use, but not sanitized to suit it". A "standard" Senna will set a person back £750,000 (about $1 million) and the Carbon Theme adds another £300,000 (about $410,000) to the total.
What won't change is the total number of cars that McLaren plans to produce; the supercar maker will build just 500 examples of the McLaren Senna, with each vehicle costing about $1.03 million.
