NHRA great John Force crashes hard at Arizona Nationals

Racing at NHRA Arizona Nationals Sunday, Force was facing Jonnie Lindberg in the elimination round when his auto blew and crossed the center line after the finish.

Force was responsive, speaking with medical personnel, and was transported to a local hospital for evaluation. The parachutes from both cars got tangled at that point, and Lindberg's vehicle dragged Force's back across the track and into the left wall. Lindberg's auto also lost its body before the two vehicles came to a stop. Sixteen-time Funny Car champion John Force and Jonnie Lindberg collided at the NHRA's Arizona Nationals.

Force blew his engine at the finish line, which ripped the body off his vehicle and caused it to veer into Lindberg's lane.

Force's daughter, Brittany, suffered a bad crash a week ago.

"I got up and walked away", Lindberg said. After the 16-time Funny Car season champion's wreck, daughter Courtney went on to win the event.

Hopefully Force is OK and will be back on the track soon.

Although the two incidents were similar, Force cited the safety engineered into the cars since his Dallas crash as the main reason he wasn't more seriously injured this time around.

He won two of his record 16 NHRA titles after that accident.

"This was a great day for John Force Racing", John Force said in a team release. "My struggles continue, but I'm a big boy, I'll fix it".
