Nigeria's commercial city Lagos declares holiday for Buhari's visit

Dr Alfred Adewale Martins, has described the planned 2-day working visit of President Muhammadu Buhari to Lagos as ill-timed.

"For the avoidance of doubt, the Lagos State Police Command will not tolerate any protest from the National Basketball Association or from any group or individual for that matter during the visit of Mr President whom Lagosians are ready to receive warmly".

He said the President, on arrival, will attend the Colloquium organised to mark the 66th Birthday of the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu scheduled to hold at the Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos on Thursday.

While the airport ceremonies were going one, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo was at the ground breaking ceremony of Lekki Deep Seaport representing President Buhari.

The president would also tour the Eko Atlantic City which is a new coastal city being built on Victoria Island adjacent to Lagos, Nigeria, to solve the chronic shortage of real estate in the world's fastest-growing megacity.

President Muhammadu Buhari will also lead other top dignitaries on to unveil the Ikeja Bus Terminal infrastructure.

The state government in a statement issued Tuesday by Kehinde Bamigbetan, Commissioner for Information and Strategy, said the public holiday would enable Lagosians come out en-masse to welcome the President.

Another traveler who had already brought down her luggage from the auto which she was in and was already walking towards the Airport when she was confronted by our reporter pleaded with the state government to always give early notice of its activites.

A security operative explained to Sahara Reporters that the road blockages were done for security reasons and to ensure that the President gets easy and smooth access to places he is scheduled to visit in Lagos.
