Nike announced president Trevor Edwards resigned Thursday and will retire in August amid complaints of inappropriate workplace behavior, the Wall Street Journal first reported.

In an internal memo to staff announcing the departure, Mr. Parker disclosed that the company in recent weeks had received reports of "behavior occurring within our organization that do not reflect our core values of inclusivity, respect and empowerment. We've heard from strong and courageous employees". The memo added that Nike is reviewing its human resources practices and procedure for reporting complaints.

Nike's spokeswoman said Edwards' departure is in light of "a decision to realign our team to accelerate our business and evolve our culture".

The Beaverton, Oregon-based company said in a news release that Parker will remain as chairman, president and CEO beyond 2020, and detailed other executive changes.
