Nokia 1 Android Go Edition launched in India at Rs 5499: Specs, availability

One of the phones it had announced was the Nokia 1, which is based on a special version of Android called "Go Edition", tailor made for ultra affordable handsets in markets like India running "light" versions of core Google applications so that the entire Android computing experience is more efficient on frugal hardware.

The Nokia 1 budget smartphone will go on sale in India on March 28.

The phone will be available in Dark blue and Warm Red colour options with Xpress on Covers priced at Rs. 450 and available in Azure and Grey or Yellow and Pink.

Nokia has launched the Nokia 1 smartphone in India. These Xpress-On covers will be sold separately for Rs 450. There is Rs. 2,200 cash back from Reliance Jio, which will take the effective pricing of Nokia 1 to Rs. 3,299. Nokia 1 buyers will also get 20 percent off on booking their first ride via redBus. HMD Global has also announced a 12-month Accidental Damage Insurance by Servify on opening the Kotak 811 savings account and activating it with an initial deposit of Rs 1,000 in the introductory period.

Nokia 1 launched back in MWC 2018 with other couples of smartphones.

To recap, Android Oreo (Go Edition) is a trimmed down version of Android Oreo which has been created to run on devices with 1GB or less RAM.

The company also relaunched it's 22-year-old feature phone Nokia 8110 with the support of 4G services for €79 or about Rs 6,300 excluding tax.

Connectivity options include, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, GPS/AGPS, Bluetooth 4.2, a micro USB 2.0 port and a 3.5mm headphone jack. Although these are absolutely low-end specs, Android Go, which is designed for devices with less than 1GB of RAM, should work fine. It is backed up a 2150mAh battery and is rated to deliver up to 9 hours of talk time and up to 15 days of standby time.
