North Korea's Kim says 'yes' to meeting with Trump
Washington Post columnist Marc Thiessen said Wednesday that in order for President Donald Trump to make progress in his denuclearization talks with North Korea, he must look dictator Kim Jong Un "right in the eye and say 'I'm not like my predecessors'".
Kim's meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping was his first with another head of state and first known trip outside North Korea since he assumed control of the country in 2011.
His comments came as Kim completed a secretive and unprecedented visit to Beijing on Wednesday as the two countries seek to fix frayed ties before Pyongyang's landmark summits with Washington and earlier with South Korea.
The White House said China briefed the administration on Kim's unannounced visit to Beijing, and stressed that the USA policy of maximum pressure on North Korea is working. "In the meantime, and unfortunately, maximum sanctions and pressure must be maintained at all cost!"

On his first trip overseas since taking power, Kim and his wife were greeted by an honour guard and a banquet hosted by President Xi Jinping, according to state media, which confirmed the three-day visit on Wednesday only after Kim had returned by train to North Korea.
Mr Kim also said the issue of denuclearisation could be resolved if South Korea and the USA took "progressive and synchronous measures for the realisation of peace". The Trump administration has slapped sanctions on companies across the globe to punish illicit trade with North Korea.
