You Can Now Use Your Credit Card Instead Of An Opal Card
Good news for people who constantly forget to top up their Opal cards: pretty soon, you'll be able to tap on to public transport in Sydney with your credit or debit card instead.
It will allow customers to tap on and off with a contactless-enabled American Express, Mastercard or Visa card, as well as smartphones, tablets and smart watches linked to their Opal cards.
The previous trial of the technology on ferries between Circular Quay and Manly is today being extended to all ferries as well as light rail services between Central Station and Dulwich Hill, with trains expected to gain access to the contactless payment system by the end of this year.
"After overwhelmingly positive customer feedback, were adding more services, more modes and more card providers", Mr Constance said.
Speaking to reporters on Monday, Constance said it complements the foundation of Opal.
"It's created to be able to be convenient for tourists [and] for those who might have left their Opal card at home".

Only adult fares can now be purchased using the new contactless payment method.
We are not replacing the Opal system. Around 40 percent of pay-as-you-go travel in London is now made with contactless methods.
