While a study that shows a lot of teens are sending sexually explicit messages, pictures and videos using digital technology might seem like a non-news story - after all, there have been 39 previous ones since 2009 - Madigan's work is receiving worldwide attention for good reason.

The analysis, which was published this week in The Journal of the American Medical Association, showed that more than one in four teenagers reported that they'd received a sext, defined by the study as a sexually explicit image, video or message sent that is sent electronically. Another finding that may throw moms and dads for a loop involves the gender of the kids engaging in sexting. A new study tells that sexting among teens and young aged children gets increased from the past decades and this is creating difficulty for the educator to guide the children positively.

This isn't necessarily surprising, since older teens are more likely to be exploring their sexuality, Madigan and her colleagues noted. Madigan added that more studies are needed in this area because it is of rising concern in the present social scenario.

Scientists analyzed information on sexting propensities from 39 already distributed examinations with an aggregate of 110,380 teens.
