Fan Reactions on One Plus 6 Notch
Whether we like it or not, but iPhone X's not so appreciated notch design is being picked up by others. Apple iPhone X popularised it, and we've seen Android manufacturers follow suite within months. Recently, in India, mid-range smartphones like Oppo F7 and Vivo V9 came with the same feature. Still, there are many who think the notch on the edge-to-edge display is ugly and ruins the symmetry of the device. While consumers have been divided on the notch (and a number of OnePlus fans have even expressed their outrage on Twitter), OnePlus has been defending it strongly this week and CEO Pete Lau even posted an explainer of why the notch was necessary to pursue "optimal phone design". Being able to offer more screen without compromising on size or performance is a great benefit. Placing the camera off-center would "compromise the speed and reliability of our industry-leading Face Unlock feature", Lau said. "We also considered using a smaller module, but decided not to as this would have lowered the quality of your photos", he adds. And since displays with notches are gaining popularity in the Android world, it will be easier for the company to get access to this.
Early this year, OnePlus CEO Pete Lau had also confirmed that the upcoming OnePlus 6 will launch in June this year and will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC. According to Lau, exploring a pop-up camera might sound interesting, but the technology has not yet reached a practical stage where it can be implemented on all phones. Other revelations made by Pei included the fact the smartphone would house the largest display in a OnePlus device yet, have a screen-to-body ratio of 90 percent, and that it won't be larger than any of the current OnePlus flagship models in size.

According to the post, OnePlus claims that it wanted to make "the most out of every square inch" of the device. OnePlus is also being quite precise with viewing experience on the OnePlus 6. Also, Pete states that the area taken up by the notch is not used by the interface most of the times unless somebody wants to watch a fullscreen video. The company explained that the phone will have a chin, since the ribbon at the bottom of the display connects it to the internal hardware. The software will also have a mode where individual apps can be selected to enter "a compatibility mode". Currently, the OnePlus 5T has the fingerprint scanner placed at the back, due to its 18:9 display on the front.
