
Akon I Could Have Restored Power to Puerto Rico Months Ago
The Internal Revenue Service has issued a notice extending the relief it provided previous year to residents of Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands who evacuated or couldn't return because of the damage caused by Hurricanes Irma and Maria.
Workers are being pulled from Puerto Rico by the United States Army Corps of Engineers as part of a "responsible drawdown" despite the roughly 300,000 customers who still don't have electricity.
Local officials in the territory slammed the move, saying it was too soon for the companies to leave and that their work was incomplete.
After almost five months of living without electricity, there was no denying the joy of Maricao residents on Friday afternoon.
"Fluor was among the first companies to get here, about a month and a half ago", said González Otero.
