Patriots acquire DT Danny Shelton from the Browns

Via ESPN's Field Yates and Adam Schefter, Cleveland has opted to trade defensive tackle Danny Shelton to the New England Patriots.

Adam Schefter reported that it's Shelton and a Browns 2018 fifth-round pick to the Patriots for the Patriots' third-round pick in 2019.

Shelton was a first rounder in 2015, so the Patriots will give him essentially a one-year audition and it's unlikely they will pick up his fifth year option as a former first rounder.

Shelton joins a defensive tackle group led by fellow 2015 first-round pick Malcolm Brown, along with fellow tackles Lawrence Guy and Vincent Valentine.

On Friday Dorsey made 3 trades to acquire 3-time Pro Bowl receiver Jarvis Landry from Miami, quarterback Tyrod Taylor from Buffalo and cornerback Damarious Randall from Green Bay while also sending quarterback DeShone Kizer to the Packers.

On Wednesday afternoon (March 14) at 4:00 p.m. ET, the NFL's new fiscal year will begin. The Browns will get a conditional draft pick in return. Yes, the Patriots defense did overcome a shaky start and their rankings could be perceived as deceptive.

The trade is just the latest transaction where the Browns have moved on from a player they selected in the first round of the draft.

Shelton enters 2018 on the final year of his rookie contract.

Now it makes sense as to why the Patriots are moving on from Alan Branch and Ricky Jean Francois, as they have gotten younger at the defensive tackle position.

Browns fans will be hoping the 2018 draft goes slightly better.
