An investigation magistrate filed a preliminary charge of "rape of a minor by a person in authority".

The father-in-law of Pippa Middleton, whose sister Kate is married to Britain's Prince William, has been charged in France with the rape of a minor, a legal source told AFP on Friday. He has been slapped with charges for an alleged attack in Paris, and one in St. Barts, where he permanently lives with his wife Jane.

Billionaire David Matthews was questioned by French police last Tuesday in relation to a case dating from 1998 to 1999, the Sun reports.

A Paris judicial official said: "I confirm that David M was placed in police custody on March 27 at the Brigade for the Protection of Minors".
