It looked wonderful, diverse, powerful, unique and trippy. With a budget exceeding $100 million, according to a tweet from DuVernay, the picture marks the biggest directing assignment for an African-American woman.

Dave Hollis, the president of worldwide distribution for Disney, told Variety that Black Panther and A Wrinkle in Time embraced inclusion through their portrayals of strong female and minority characters. But Variety said the film was "wildly uneven, weirdly suspenseless, and totally all over the place", while the Los Angeles Times liked the "sheer exuberance" of the movie but wished it was "more focused, more disciplined". But, very happy you dug WRINKLE IN TIME. As the heroine, Meg Murry, she is in almost every frame, navigating mean girls at school, the loss of her father and even interdimensional travel. When the trio isn't narrating, the father (Chris Pine) is explaining the science behind tessering in a PowerPoint presentation to a group of scientists. One night, Charles Wallace invites an ostentatious stranger into their home named Mrs. Whatsit (Reese Witherspoon), a kind and gentle woman who talks to Charles Wallace as if they've known each other for ages. That leaves Meg and her adopted younger brother Charles Wallace (Deric McCabe) looking out for each other. Who (Mindy Kaling) was given an updated list that's more relatable to modern audience.

She's helped by three supernatural beings who acknowledge God and Christ as they help Meg in her quest to find her father.

So far in the franchise's history, all eight films - including the two spin-offs "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" and the Han Solo standalone movie - have been directed by white male filmmakers. It is most definitely not bad but, for a film where many wonderful things happen, it is seriously lacking in magic.

In short, the importance of A Wrinkle in Time can't be understated. Did you see the clip?

"S$3 he infused the love she had for her father, and her mother who is still with us, into the lovely film "A Wrinkle in Time, '" he wrote".

"A Wrinkle in Time" reminds me of a dream.

How successful were you at suspending your disbelief while watching the movie? She has a power and a vulnerability about her that many people don't get to bring on their big break.

Winfrey's Mrs. Who is the grande dame, imposing with dramatic white hair, sparkling lips and eyes in various hues, and gems across her forehead, exhorting Meg to be a warrior in tones that recall the late poet Maya Angelou; Winfrey has said she was channeling both Angelou and the good witch Glinda. More care seems to have been taken with the look of the film than in making sure the story comes off in a clear and impactful way. It's a push and pull situation that's mostly successful.

"A Wrinkle in Time" went with the first direction. Its messages are pure and executed well, but the way in which we get to those messages are often just a little too inconsequential for comfort.

If I'd seen Meg's journey as a kid, I would have felt a lot more confident about myself, especially with regards to matters of the heart.

For her part, DuVernay acknowledged the feat by retweeting a story about the historic moment.
