GSAT-6A satellite
For its twelfth mission, India's Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV-F08) successfully launched the GSAT-6A satellite on 29th March.
The satellite was injected into geosynchronous transfer orbit by GSLV-F08, almost 18 minutes after a copybook launch from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre here.It was the 12th launch in the GSLV series and the sixth flight using indigenous cryogenic engine. This provided a major boost to India's space programme and renewed its interest in lunar exploration.
The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) successfully placed a communication satellite GSAT-6A in a geosynchronous transfer orbit.

After the launch, it is second predominantly S-band communications satellite. ISRO Chairman K Sivan has already confirmed that the GSAT-6A launch would soon be followed by the launch of another navigation satellite which will happen in the next fiscal. The GSAT-6A's antenna has a diameter of six metres - it can be unfurled and opened like an umbrella once it reaches its prescribed orbit. This is one of the largest satellite antennas realised by ISRO. The satellite will provide mobile communications throughout the country in combination with handheld ground terminals, and will also provide communications services for the Indian Armed Forces. S-band is very useful because the 2.5 Ghz band is specially used around the globe for 4G services, and is worth billions of dollars.
