"In the wake of the controversial new Holocaust Law in Poland and the anti-Semitism it has unleashed that has left the Jewish community shaken, the Simon Wiesenthal Centre (SWC) is considering issuing a Travel Advisory for world Jewry", said the statement, which was written by two rabbis.

Elderly Holocaust survivors gather at the center, but it also houses a nursery and preschool - a reflection of the re-emergence of a Jewish population in Poland.

Andrzej Duda visited the center on Tuesday and met with Jewish leaders.

The new law, which allows prison sentences of up to three years for falsely attributing the Holocaust crimes of occupying German Nazis to Poles, has angered Israeli officials.

The law has angered Israel, which in turn has sparked anti-Jewish remarks in the public media by prominent commentators and elected officials, something unheard of in decades.

Number of teens 'sexting' is on the rise

Moreover, as a result of Israeli pressure, the law will not be implemented before Poland's Constitutional Tribunal reviews it, according to the Jerusalem Post. "Poland and Israel are friends and we hope to resolve all disagreements in a friendly manner", Nahshon wrote on Twitter.

"It is a heartache to think that anything of that could be lost", Duda said.

Last Saturday it was reported that the Polish government would delay implementation of the law in order to allow for dialogue with Israel.

Sławek Szefs reports the appeal, signed by 50 representatives of the Polish Society of the Righteous Among the Nations - an NGO set up in 1985 - was presented to Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki at a meeting in Warsaw on Monday.

"The ministry explained that the Polish delegation is coming to Israel "to speak with its Israeli counterparts, whose goal is to preserve the historical truth and prevent harm to the freedom of research and expression".
