"Preserving the memory of the Holocaust is a matter beyond the bilateral relationship between Israel and Poland". Briefing headed by Israel MFA's Director General Rotem & Polish Deputy FM Cichocki.
The Director-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs also expressed his concern about the recent public atmosphere in Poland and the many manifestations of anti-Semitism and stressed that the Polish government must not tolerate anti-Semitic provocations.
"Those efforts had been fruitless", he said, adding that the new law is a necessary "legal tool to allow us to fend off the narrative of Polish complicity".
A joint statement is expected to be issued later.
A top Polish official is assuring his American counterparts in Washington that "nothing" will happen when a widely-criticized law takes effect Thursday that would criminalize assertions Poland bears any responsibility for Holocaust atrocities.
As now written, the law calls for prison terms of up to three years for attributing the crimes of Nazi Germany to the Polish state or nation. The draft law forbids using the phrase "Polish death camp" for the description of the concentration camp existed in the territory of occupied Poland.

Before the meeting, Polish Deputy Foreign Minister Bartosz Cichocki said his delegation was "committed to join our efforts to promote truth about the Holocaust and the Polish-Jewish centuries-old relationship".
The law, however, has sparked a crisis with Israel, where Holocaust survivors and officials fear its true aim is to repress research on Poles who killed Jews during the Second World War. They insist that the law, which calls for prison sentences of up to three years, will only punish those who publicly and "against the facts" accuse the Polish nation as a whole for crimes committed by the Germans.
Yet stripping Poland of its voting rights remains unlikely because it would require unanimity among all European Union governments, and Hungary's Prime Minister Viktor Orban, himself under a cloud for not observing the rule of law, has promised to block any such action against his Polish ally.
Poland has adopted 13 laws in the past two years that created a situation where the state "can systematically interfere with the composition, powers, the administration and the functioning" of the judiciary, Commission Vice President Frans Timmermans said when he announced the Article 7 decision in December.
But prosecutors are already looking for cases where Poland is defamed over its wartime activities.
