Campaigning ends for Meghalaya & Nagaland Polls
The Election Commission has ordered re-polling in Kyndong Tuber polling station in Raliang constituency of West Jaintia Hills district tomorrow. The figures are likely to go up as lot of information are coming from different parts.
Earlier in the day, State Chief Electoral Officer Frederick Roy Kharkongor had told IANS that over 50 per cent electorate had cast their votes and that a large number of voters were still in queues at various polling stations across the State.
Kharkongor said that 7, 88, 511 women voters constituting about 86.30 percent had exercised their franchise compared to 7, 47, 335 males accounting to about 83.40 percent.
Tuesday's election was marred by a clash between supporters of the ruling Naga People's Front and the Bharatiya Janata Party in Zunheboto district, in which one person was shot dead and two persons injured. Election has been countermanded in Williamnagar in the wake of the killing of an NCP candidate Jonathone N Sangma in an IED blast.
