DTE Linemen Return from Puerto Rico Where They've Been Working to Restore Power
Power has been restored to 86 percent of customers in Puerto Rico as of February 23.
According to the Puerto Rico Energy Power Authority, almost 87 percent of energy customers have power on the island. Officials said the line should be fully operational again before Friday.
They said the work was very rewarding. The hurricane devastated the island's aging power infrastructure and knocked out power to most homes.
"That one time we turned on the 600 customers, we were on top of the mountain", said Danny Travis, a supervisor for Kentucky Utilities.

"The approved financing will provide PREPA with a much-needed lifeline while safeguarding the operation in the near term", Gerardo Portela, director of Puerto Rico's financial authority said in a statement.
They've spent more than a month helping to restore power to hurricane-ravaged Puerto Rico, and Thursday night, LG&E and KU crews returned home. Last week, 80 workers came home and another crew of 80 workers left MI for Puerto Rico in what DTE calls a "changing of the guard" to help restore power.
The numbers also indicate a rise in suicide rates on the island, as the death toll continued into November, with almost 155 deaths recorded, Los Angeles Times reported.
"Many of us that were doing work on the island were pretty surprised at...the spirit of the people that were on the island", says Shaw.
The same month, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, DHS, has also refused to extend the waiver for the Jones Act, a 97-year-old shipping law that prevents non-U.S. ships from bringing cargo to and from U.S. harbors.
