Police are ramping up their efforts to catch a group of brazen Irish tourists allegedly responsible for a spate of thefts and scams in south-east Queensland.
The elderly man forked over 27 thousand dollars to five men guys to fix his leaking roof; but police say the tradies took off with his cash without doing the work.
"These are serious allegations and we'd very much like to hear their side of the story", Detective Superintendent Tony Fleming said.
One of the worst cases involved an elderly man who lost more than $25,000 when he paid men to fix his roof, but they never finished the job.
On one occasion, two of the women are alleged to have distracted staff at a high-end shoe store in Brisbane while a young child stole a pair of expensive high-heels and stashed them in a pram.
