The Raiders surprisingly released punter Marquette King on Friday

King had formed a formidable 1-2 punch with long-time Oakland place kicker Sebastian Janikowski, who missed the 2017 regular season with an injury. King was at the team's facility Friday to try to meet with coaches only to get intercepted by general manager Reggie McKenzie before he got the chance to do so and notified of his release, per NFL Media's Mike Garafolo.

King was sixth in the National Football League in 2017 on yards per punt (47.4) and tied for 15th for kicks inside the 20 (28).

The Oakland Raiders have signed free agent cornerback Leon Hall, according to ESPN's Field Yates. He earned consensus All-American honors as a senior in 2006, leaving as the school's record holder with 43 passes defensed.
