Despite the popularity of the 67-year-old star in Telugu states, the theatrical rights of the film's Telugu version remains unsold. "Sincere Apologies to all the Fans who were eagerly waiting for the Teaser [sic]", Wunderbar Films, the production house of Kaala, tweeted.

Jayendra Saraswathi Shankaracharya, the 69th pontiff of the Kanchi Mutt, had died of cardiac arrest on Wednesday, February 28.

The teaser of Kaala, meanwhile, is expected to shatter the most-watched film promo records on the internet. Initially, the teaser was all set to release at 11am today. The film is written and directed by Pa Ranjith, who has collaborated with Rajinikanth once again after Kabali.

It boasts of an ensemble cast including Nana Patekar, Huma Qureshi, Samuthirakani and Pankaj Tripathi among others. The untitled project will be bankrolled by Sun Pictures, which produced his 2010 blockbuster Enthiran.
