The Cincinnati Bengals and tight end Tyler Eifert will reportedly be back together in 2018 after the two sides have agreed to a deal. NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reported the deal is worth a maximum of $8 million.

After the papers were inked, news came to light that the Bengals had to beat out two California teams to bring the tight end back to Cincinnati.

Eifert's season ended previous year due to a back injury and he has also suffered injuries to his ankle, elbow and knees. When healthy, Eifert has a nose for the end zone, but his five-year career has been marked by a total of 41 regular-season missed games due to various injuries. It's nothing new for the 27-year-old, who has played 39 games in his National Football League career and missed 41.

If he's healthy and returns to the form that sent him to the Pro Bowl in 2015, a big contract with the Bengals is likely on the horizon. If he sustains another significant injury in 2018, then he may not get an extension after this upcoming season.

A dislocated elbow in Week 1 that ended his 2014 season.

As for Eifert, it gives him the security of one more season to prove himself before he goes through the same free agency process against in 2019. Derek Carrier left in free agency, so he's out of the picture, but Temarrick Hemingway is coming back after missing all of 2017 with a knee injury.

In his Pro Bowl season in 2015, Eifert posted career highs in catches (52), receiving yards (615) and touchdowns (13).

If Eifert can't bounce back from the various injuries he's suffered through, it'll be a disaster.
