These are the results from the ManpowerGroup Employment Outlook Survey for the second quarter of 2018, which records a Net Employment Outlook (NEO)[1] of +10% for Australia, signalling that more employers plan to increase staffing levels than not heading into the second quarter of this year.
Erica Melarangeli of Manpower's Stoney Creek office says the outlook for Hamilton shows an increase of 12 percentage points when compared with the outlook reported during the same time previous year, indicating an optimistic hiring pace for the upcoming months.
"The strength of the employment outlook across the country continues to bode well for gains in household income over the coming year".
Modest hiring plans are reported in the mining and construction sector with an outlook of +7%, and in the transportation and utilities sector, where the outlook is +6%. Hiring intentions improve in five of the 10 industry sectors when compared with the previous quarter.
The ManpowerGroup Employment Outlook Survey is conducted quarterly to measure employers' intentions to increase or decrease the number of employees in their workforce during the next quarter. The wholesale and retail trade sectors in the country are the most upbeat about hiring, followed by services, finance, insurance, and the real estate sectors, the report said. Seven per cent anticipate making cutbacks.

Both state and national hiring outlook numbers are stronger than the current quarter, when a net of 15 percent of IN employers planned to hire and 19 percent of US employers expected to add jobs. Meanwhile, the weakest hiring climate is anticipated in Free State where the Outlook is +1%.
ManpowerGroup said the net hiring outlook of the engineering/construction sector and the retail/wholesale sector stood at 26 percent, ahead of the transportation/warehousing/communications sector's 21 percent and the leisure/food/hospitality sector's 17 percent. However, uncertain hiring plans are reported by small and micro-size businesses with employment outlooks of -1% and -5%.
Staffing levels are expected to grow in all eight Asia Pacific countries and territories surveyed for the April-June period, i.e. Australia, China, Hong Kong, India, Japan, New Zealand, Singapore, and Taiwan.
On the regional level, 20 percent of Midwest employers expect to hire more workers for the second quarter, the strongest labor market for the region since 2001. In a year-over-year comparison, job gains are expected to improve in 16 of the 25 countries where comparison data is available, decline in six and are unchanged in three.
