Gov. Gina Raimondo moved to keep attention focused on gun violence Monday, signing an executive order aimed at disarming potentially unsafe residents and making Rhode Island the first state to act on gun policy since a gunman shot and killed 17 people at a Florida high school earlier this month.

The new policy will direct police to use whatever legal means are available to take guns away from people who are deemed risky, based on tips from the public.

The executive order directs law enforcement agencies to consider all red flags, including recent threats of violence made in person, in videos and on social media.
